 Public Employees Federation Division 229 has approved an education grant program for fiscal year 2007-
2008 and an award total of $1000 in education grants.  The education grant program is designed to
encourage and support the post-secondary education efforts of division members’ children.

Education Grants Rules and Procedures

 Four awards of $250 each will be presented.  Award recipients will be selected in a random public drawing
at the next Division 229 membership meeting to be held on March 12, 2008.  Winners will receive their
awards soon after March 12, 2008.  Winning names will be posted on PEF bulletin boards and announced at
the membership meeting.  Financial need will not be considered.  Applicants need not be present to win.  
Any amount not awarded will roll over into the grant award fund for the next year.

 Eligible applicants are limited to legal children of PEF Division 229 members.  Children for whom the PEF
member is legal guardian are also eligible.  Each applicant may file only one application; however, if both
parents are members of PEF Division 229, the child may submit an application from each parent.  If a
member has 2 or more children who meet the eligibility criteria an application may be submitted for each
child.  Children who receive an award are eligible to apply in subsequent years, but there is a maximum of 2
awards per child.

 Applicants must be able to provide proof of enrollment in an approved post-secondary education program.  
Winners of the March 12, 2008 drawing will be asked to provide proof of enrollment prior to receipt of the
education grant.  The post-secondary education program must be one that will lead to a college degree (e.g.
2 year degree, 4 year degree) or a certificate (e.g. business school, computer school, cosmetology,
welding).  Proof of enrollment could be a copy of the student’s registration showing dates of attendance and
courses enrolled in, or, a letter from a school official indicating the student is currently taking courses in a
program that leads to a degree or certificate, or other written proof that may be available to the applicant.  

Application Procedure

 Deadline for submitting an application for fiscal year 2007-2008 is March 11, 2008.  Applications must be in
the hands of Division 229 Council Leader Jim Lyons by March 11, 2008.  Students enrolled during Fall term
of 2007 or Spring term of 2008 is eligible for fiscal 2007-2008 awards.  Applications received late or which
are incomplete will not be considered.

 Application should contain the following:  (Please use form on back of this page, download from PEF
Division 229 website:  www.pefdivision229.com , or send necessary information by email.)

1.  Applicant’s name, address and phone number.
2.  The name, address and work phone number of PEF division member to whom the applicant is connected.
3.  The name of institution of the post-secondary education program.   Please show period of attendance
(e.g. Fall 2007 or Spring 2008).
4.  Send or hand-deliver these materials by March 11, 2008 to Jim Lyons, Steve Gally, or Migdalia Rodriguez.
